Minor Hotel Group Announces First Property in Cambodia

Bangkok, 12 September 2013: Minor Hotel Group (MHG), a hotel owner, operator and investor, has announced the addition of its first property in Cambodia. The group has acquired majority ownership of the Sothea Boutique Resort in Siem Reap, which will be rebranded to Anantara Angkor Resort & Spa later this year.

This latest addition to MHG's portfolio takes the total number of properties in operation to 95 and adds a new country, taking the total to fourteen.

Anantara Angkor Resort & Spa will be a 39-suite boutique resort in Siem Reap, home to the UNESCO World Heritage Angkor Wat temples, Cambodia's most visited destination. The resort is just ten minutes from Siem Reap International Airport and is close to Angkor Wat and Siem Reap's quaint central district. The resort is housed within an estate that exudes the elegance of a grand Khmer villa, with Cambodian heritage fusing seamlessly with the resort's contemporary charm.

The resort's main restaurant offers a modern interpretation of classic native Khmer recipes, with alternative dining available on the alfresco terrace and in the frangipani tree lined courtyard. The spa, with its five spa and massage suites, offers a selection of organic treatments and daily yoga. The impressive gold-flecked, terrazzo-tiled pool has built in seats on all sides, complete with Jacuzzi jets. Each guest room houses artwork designed by local artists and custom-made furniture can be found throughout the resort, along with elements of Angkor Wat-inspired design.

The luxurious new addition to Anantara's portfolio will bring the brand's experience and discovery-led hospitality to the Cambodian market for the first time and will become the seventh country for the fast expanding brand.

Dillip Rajakarier, CEO Minor Hotel Group, commented, "We are thrilled to add Cambodia to our ever-growing list of countries with this beautiful boutique resort in Siem Reap joining our portfolio. It's exciting times for Anantara right now - this addition strengthens the brand's position in Southeast Asia, plus we have our first Anantara opening in Dubai in a few days and also the first Anantara in Africa to come before the end of the year."
